Earlier this month Joe wrote a post about my involvement in the Dayton Martin Luther King Celebration. The walk was on Monday (Jan 19) and it was a great day and celebration.
My day started at the MLK Kettering and Oakwood Breakfast. After an inspiring speech and award winning artwork, it was off to the March/Rally. The weather was on our side cold but sunny.
The South quadrants’ marches were led by a local drum corps, and at the rally we heard Dr. King’s I have a Dream Speech read by all faiths.
Thank you to everyone who came out – the March was successful because of your involvement. Check out David Bowman’s post for a great video from the march/rally.
We worked with eHealth Data Solutions in Yellow Springs to design a display for their upcoming trade show season. They pre-picked a display vendor – xpressionsSNAP! – and we provided design assistance.
eHealth wanted a trade show set-up that was lightweight, easy to transport, and a snap to put together. By golly, I think they found it. Check out the installation process, as displayed by Selby and Joe:
There are magnets and locks on the back-side of the display that keep it stable. They can also make it a little tricky to set-up the first time around. The trick: grab a buddy – it’ll take two people. And don’t be timid.
The total shipping weight is around 12 lbs, and that includes a carrying case with wheels.
And in case you’re curious, the white box on the top of the display is for a PPT projection. The display doubles as a projection screen for presentations that are shown in the booth. However, if the client is not planning to use the PPT, that panel can be easily swapped out with another photo/graphic panel.
If you wanted to buy a vowel, I’d go with “e” for “eeeee-asy!”
As one of their new corporation initiatives after separating from NCR, Teradata established the Teradata Cares program to support volunteerism and charitable contributions to the community. And one of the teams at Dayton headquarters let us in on the fun.
Our clients from the Marcom group invited us to participate in a service project to benefit Blue Star Mothers of America – a non-partisan, non-profit organization of mothers who have children serving in the military. Among other things, Blue Star Mothers create blank-inside cards that the troops are able to send back home to their wives, girlfriends, mothers, etc.
Teradata donated their time and creative talents to make cards – and many talents were revealed. We were very impressed by Julie’s organization and assembly line that ran quite smoothly, and by Sandra’s precise scissor skills.
After the service project, our friends from Teradata came out to Yellow Springs for a team-building event. We had created a scavenger hunt throughout the Village and sent teams out on bicycles to solve clues and explore one of the “Coolest Small Towns in America” (according to a recent Yahoo! Travel article).
With only one minor casualty (she survived and the bike did, too!), the scavenger hunt was won by Andrea, Sandra, and Valerie. All of the teams displayed impressive creativity and work ethics – they certainly worked well under the pressures of “friendly” competition.
The day ended at the Winds – also noted in the recent Yahoo! article – with good food, good wine, and great conversation. In the end, our bellies were full and aching from laughter.
Many thanks to Teradata Marcom for giving us a break from the daily grind … We’re proud to have helped the community with you.
