One of our printers recently sent us these poll results:
Due to the economy, how much has your print spend decreased for 2009?
a) There has been a tremendous decrease in our print spend 35%
b) There has been a marginal decrease in our print spend 33%
c) There has been a slight decrease in our print spend 20%
d) There has been no decrease in our print spend 13%
How about you? Are you printing less these days? Or are you printing differently? What media are you using instead – or are you just doing without?
Let’s have a conversation!

I’ve been hearing more and more that budgets are shifting from print media to digital publications. Seeing how clients are asking more about a better web presence, users are becoming more accessible through the web and media outlets are starting to realize this is where they need to be focusing marketing efforts.
I also feel that digital publications are better measurable. Analytics have been able to provide how often someone stays and read the publications and providing the user the ability to comment and be a part of the news.
Thanks for the poll results. I wonder what this will look like after the economy is on the up and up.

Thanks, Joe!
Talking with printers, the printed word is still alive and well, but is becoming more ‘micro-targeted’ to the audience. Variable printing allows print that is tailored specifically to reader interests. Mass customization of print products is becoming commonplace, from advertising, to your monthly bank or utility statement. Variable printing has shown that it ups the retention factor, and increases measurable feedback from the mail list.
When the economy comes back, and it will, I hope people will still like to read something they can hold on too!
