About a dozen days after Ohio’s wind storms, electricity has (finally) been fully restored to Bingers’ homes. (Our office in Yellow Springs was lucky enough to regain power within four days of the outage.)

We’d like to thank all of your clients and vendors who were flexible during this situation. We tried our best to minimize disruptions to your projects and schedules. Ultimately, we hope you didn’t even notice that we were without power in Yellow Springs.

If you have any comments or suggestions about how we handled these circumstances, we hope you’ll share those with us. We treat every new experience as something to learn from … and “hurricane hits Ohio” fits nicely into that category.

In case you’re curious about how we “kept the lights on” for clients, see the photos below for a few of our virtual locations during “Blackout 08.”

  • Todd worked from a Panera Bread in Columbus. Panera had a two-hour time limit, so he had to strategically change locations throughout the city.
  • Selby worked from Wright State University where her husband is a med student.
  • Joe worked from his brother’s office in downtown Dayton.
  • Laura worked from her kitchen counter in Kettering, and Roger claimed dibs on her dining room table.

During Ohio’s week without power – termed “blackout 08″ by our intern Joe – Bingers did the best they could to keep on keepin’ on. Make-shift offices were set up wherever the lights and Internet came on:

  • Laura’s kitchen
  • Wright State University
  • Panera Bread
  • Miami Valley Hospital

A few Bingers are still waiting for the lights to come at their homes, but the Yellow Springs office is fully functional again.

Thanks for everyone’s patience, thoughts and prayers. And (I’m told) thanks for hot water in Laura’s shower and her willingness to share.

I like Ike… NOT

While many people have experienced destruction, power outages, and hardship, Bing and its employees are dealing with a range of problems since remnants of Hurricane Ike passed through Ohio on Sunday.

Other than branches down and power out, the Bing office in Yellow Springs is fine. Aside from Melissa in Colorado Springs, our employees who live in the Kettering area seem to have fared the best with very minimal outage. Those of us in Tipp City and Fairborn were back up and running late on Sunday. People in Beavercreek, Columbus, Dayton, and Wilmington are still struggling to operate without electricity today.

As of this evening, reports sound as though crews have made progress restoring power in Yellow Springs. As with most areas, it’s spotty. Apparently businesses and shops in town, homes on the west side of Rt. 68, and Linda’s house just outside of town are confirmed to be back on the grid. Our hats are off to the folks out there removing downed trees and reconnecting power lines!

I have not heard anything about power specifically at the office this evening, but Linda is going to check early in the morning. We’re crossing our fingers that we’ll all be back at Bing for a regular day on Wednesday.
